Battery and Flexibility Desk Academy
Twenty courses. Beginner to advanced. No course assumes what it has not taught.
The learner must be able to produce a feasible revenue plan for a storage or flexibility asset that respects its operating limits, its warranty and degradation terms, and every competing service commitment it has already sold.
20 courses · 100 to 130 chapters each · every chapter one 8 to 10 minute explainer · self-paced
Twenty courses in dependency order
A course may only assume capability taught by a lower-numbered course, and the level column never falls as you move down the table.
| # | Course | Level | Builds on | What this course owns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Asset and constraint foundations | |||
| 01 | Battery & Flexibility Business | 1/10 | none | The commercial map of a storage and flexibility business: what it sells, to whom, and how desk, asset and optimiser roles divide the work. |
| 02 | Commercial Specifications & Operating Limits | 1/10 | 01 | Reading an asset specification commercially: power rating, energy capacity, duration, round-trip efficiency, state-of-charge window and ramp capability as limits on what can be sold. |
| 03 | Degradation, Warranties & Dispatch Limits | 2/10 | 01, 02 | The warranty and degradation rulebook, covering cycle and throughput allowances, depth-of-discharge and temperature conditions and capacity guarantee tests, and the dispatch limits those terms impose. |
| 04 | Grid Connection, Export Limits & Siting Constraints | 2/10 | 01, 02 | The grid-side envelope: connection agreement capacity, import and export limits, curtailment obligations, network charging, and planning or siting conditions, and how it caps saleable volume. |
| B | Market access, dispatch and service commitments | |||
| 05 | Revenue Streams & Market Access | 3/10 | 01, 02, 04 | The catalogue of flexibility revenue streams and the market access, registration and qualification route to each one. |
| 06 | Dispatch Decisions for Commercial Teams | 3/10 | 02, 03, 04, 05 | The charge, hold and discharge decision for a single asset inside its asset, warranty and connection limits. |
| 07 | Day-Ahead & Intraday Battery Trading | 4/10 | 05, 06 | Bidding and repositioning a state-of-charge constrained asset across day-ahead and intraday sessions, including re-optimisation as prices move. |
| 08 | Ancillary-Service Obligations | 4/10 | 03, 05, 06 | The availability, response, duration and performance obligations carried by ancillary contracts, and the measurement and penalty regimes that test them. |
| 09 | Revenue Stacking & Capacity Conflicts | 5/10 | 03, 06, 07, 08 | Allocating one finite capacity and one state of charge across simultaneous competing service commitments, and resolving the conflicts that result. |
| C | Revenue realisation and commercial agreements | |||
| 10 | Settlement & Revenue Reconciliation | 5/10 | 05, 07, 08, 09 | Metering, settlement runs and the reconciliation of expected revenue against revenue paid, including dispute and claim handling. |
| 11 | Revenue & Cost Economics | 6/10 | 02, 05, 09, 10 | The full revenue and cost build for a flexibility asset, covering cycle cost, charging cost, network and balancing charges and fixed cost, and the margin that survives them. |
| 12 | Optimiser & Route-to-Market Agreements | 6/10 | 09, 10, 11 | Negotiating and governing an optimiser mandate: fee and share structures, dispatch discretion, reporting rights and performance measurement. |
| 13 | Tolling, Floors & Revenue Guarantees | 7/10 | 10, 11, 12 | Structuring and pricing tolls, floors and guaranteed-revenue arrangements, and identifying which risk each one transfers and which it leaves behind. |
| D | Multi-asset and portfolio specialisation | |||
| 14 | Co-Located Renewables & Storage | 7/10 | 04, 06, 09 | Shared-connection co-location: metering boundaries, capacity allocation between generation and storage, and contractual priority between them. |
| 15 | Demand Response & Aggregation | 8/10 | 05, 08, 09 | Building distributed and behind-the-meter flexibility into a single dispatchable aggregated unit, including availability assurance across many sites. |
| 16 | Flexible Industrial Customer Contracts | 8/10 | 08, 10, 15 | Contracting flexibility with industrial consumers: baselines, interruption rights, notice, compensation and verification of delivered reduction. |
| 17 | Multi-Asset Portfolio Allocation | 9/10 | 09, 11, 14, 15 | Allocating commitments, capacity and risk across several flexibility assets and markets as one portfolio rather than asset by asset. |
| E | Investment, stress and integrated practice | |||
| 18 | Investment Cases & Revenue Uncertainty | 9/10 | 11, 13, 17 | Building and defending an investment case on an uncertain future revenue stack, including sensitivity, merchant-risk treatment and the contracted versus merchant mix. |
| 19 | Outages, Optimiser Failure & Revenue Stress | 10/10 | 10, 12, 13, 18 | Running the commercial position through forced outage, optimiser failure and revenue collapse, including fallback dispatch, claims and recovery. |
| 20 | Integrated Flexibility Simulation | 10/10 | 09, 11, 17, 18 | Producing and defending a complete feasible revenue plan end to end under live constraints and review, which is the academy's assessed capstone against the depth test. |
Every course states the capability it owns. The brochure carries the same table plus the chapter list behind each course, which is the quickest way to find the course that teaches the thing you cannot currently do.
The whole desk end to end, in one programme
The twenty courses take one capability at a time, in dependency order, for someone building from the ground up. The Battery & Flexibility Desk Master Programme does the opposite: it runs the whole battery storage and flexibility desk front to back in a single sequence, for someone who already works on a desk and wants the shape of the job quickly rather than the long route.
Take whichever matches your starting point. They cover the same ground and several of the numbered courses draw on the same material.
Take one course, or the whole pathway
Each course stands alone. Taken in order, the twenty build one desk capability from no prior knowledge.
