Commodity Desk Academies

LNG Desk Academy

Twenty courses. Beginner to advanced. No course assumes what it has not taught.

The learner must be able to decide whether to divert a cargo, pricing the decision net of voyage and vessel economics, terminal and capacity rights, replacement obligations to the original buyer, hedge adjustment costs and the funding consequences of the cash cycle.

20 courses · 100 to 130 chapters each · every chapter one 8 to 10 minute explainer · self-paced

The pathway

Twenty courses in dependency order

A course may only assume capability taught by a lower-numbered course, and the level column never falls as you move down the table.

#CourseLevelBuilds onWhat this course owns
AMarket and cargo fundamentals
01LNG Business & Global Value Chain1/10noneThe structure of the LNG industry from project to buyer: who the participants are, how a cargo chain is assembled, and why LNG trades as a set of linked projects rather than a continuous market.
02Quantities, Quality & Energy Conversion1/1001LNG unit arithmetic: converting between cubic metres, tonnes, MMBtu and MWh through composition and gross heating value, and reading a quality certificate.
03Regional Supply, Demand & Price Formation2/1001, 02How regional LNG prices form and why basin spreads open and close across hub-indexed, oil-indexed and tender-priced demand.
04Cargo Economics & Delivered Costs2/1002, 03Building a delivered cost stack for a single cargo and reading a netback against a destination price.
BContract and operational execution
05MSPAs, SPAs & Confirmations3/1001, 04The contract instrument set: master agreements, long-form sale and purchase agreements, confirmations, and the clause architecture that binds a lifting.
06FOB, DES & Delivery Responsibilities3/1004, 05The allocation of title, delivery risk, cost and performance obligation between seller and buyer under FOB and DES terms.
07Scheduling & Annual Delivery Programmes4/1005, 06Building and amending an annual delivery programme, including nomination windows, rolling schedules and slot rights.
08Custody Transfer, Invoicing & Quantity Claims4/1002, 06, 07Measuring delivered energy at the custody transfer point, turning it into an invoice, and running shortfall and quantity claims to settlement.
CExposure, funding and hedging
09Pricing Formulae & Exposure Mapping5/1003, 04, 08Decomposing a pricing formula into index legs and mapping each leg to a dated exposure position on the book.
10Working Capital, Credit & Margin for a Cargo Book5/1004, 08, 09Funding and credit for a cargo book: letters of credit, prepayment, the cash cycle from lifting to invoice settlement, margin funding and counterparty credit limits.
11Portfolio Hedging & Proxy Basis Risk6/1003, 09, 10Hedging a mapped exposure with the instruments that actually trade, and sizing the proxy basis risk left behind after the hedge.
DAssets, shipping and cargo redirection
12Shipping Decisions for Cargo Traders6/1004, 06, 07Applying voyage and vessel economics outputs, meaning freight rate, boil-off, speed and laycan fit, to cargo-level commercial choices. It consumes outputs from the existing LNG Shipping Economics programme, which owns vessel and voyage method, and does not reteach that method.
13Liquefaction Tolling & Feedgas Management7/1002, 04, 09Liquefaction tolling and feedgas: capacity payments, fuel and shrinkage, and the lift-or-forgo decision on a tolling slot.
14Regasification Capacity & Terminal Administration7/1006, 07, 12Regasification capacity rights and terminal administration: berth windows, send-out nominations, unloading rights and secondary capacity release.
15Destination Choice & Cargo Diversions8/1010, 11, 12, 14The diversion decision itself: comparing a contracted delivery against an alternative destination net of replacement obligation, shipping, terminal rights, hedge adjustment and funding.
EStructuring, resilience and integrated practice
16Price Reviews & Commercial Renegotiation8/1003, 05, 09Price review and renegotiation mechanics: trigger clauses, evidence assembly, arbitration exposure and settlement design.
17Optionality & Structured Supply Offers9/1011, 15, 16Pricing and selling optionality: destination flexibility, volume tolerance and cancellation rights assembled into a structured supply offer.
18Small-Scale LNG & Bunkering9/1002, 04, 14Small-scale LNG and bunkering as a distinct commercial channel: break bulk, truck loading, ISO containers and marine fuel supply.
19Portfolio Resilience & Supply Security10/1007, 10, 15, 17Portfolio resilience and supply security: outage and force majeure replacement, supply diversification, and stress testing commitments against delivery failure.
20Integrated LNG Portfolio Simulation10/1011, 15, 17, 19Running the whole book under time pressure, where scheduling, pricing, hedging, shipping, terminal and funding decisions are taken together and scored as one outcome.

Every course states the capability it owns. The brochure carries the same table plus the chapter list behind each course, which is the quickest way to find the course that teaches the thing you cannot currently do.

Crash course

The whole desk end to end, in one programme

The twenty courses take one capability at a time, in dependency order, for someone building from the ground up. The LNG Desk Master Programme does the opposite: it runs the whole LNG desk front to back in a single sequence, for someone who already works on a desk and wants the shape of the job quickly rather than the long route.

Take whichever matches your starting point. They cover the same ground and several of the numbered courses draw on the same material.

Each course stands alone. Taken in order, the twenty build one desk capability from no prior knowledge.
